A Rushed Post

Rather than Monday, a post from this blogger is coming out on Saturday night and it's going to be a quick one. For one thing, Florida State comes on in about 15 minutes. For another, this couple is hitting the road for a week starting bright and early in the morning. Unlike our cross country trip, where I took my computer and occasionally put out a blog post, this space will be silent until we are home once again.

So, without further ado...

Having just unloaded a camera card, I discovered a few more hurricane, or make that, tropical storm photos, one of which is this one from out our bathroom window as the lake was overflowing its' banks.

Thank goodness the rain quit or who knows what would have happened! It was slightly unnerving to say the least. When it was all said and done, reports are that the Orlando area received 18 inches of rain over the 24 hour period. More than a week later, some areas are still struggling.

Once the storm passed, the weather turned for the better in more ways than one. Dry, cooler air replaced the hot and muggy that we've been living with for months on end. Barely a cloud in the sky with crisp blue skies have been our backdrop for the last week with not a drop of rain. The day after the storm we were hearing reports of the flooding in our nearby streets, so we took a look. Amazingly, this is Lake Davis of which you've heard so much about. Sadly I heard from Candy that the female swan on this lake was hit and killed by a car. Probably it was one of the scads of people that came to gawk.

Seriously, it was unbelievable, even more so because this lake, among others, had been drained10 inches by the city before the storm.

As many of you may recall, it wasn't far from here that I fell and broke my wrist for the second time in seven weeks!! Yeesh, am I glad that is in the past.

Nearby Lake Cherokee became one with Lake Davis.

People were having fun using kayaks and paddle boards, but of course, this kind of flooding is no laughing matter.

Nearby, Lake Emerald Park is home to a normally very small lake, but it too was flooded.

As to our community, there was very little real damage aside from the dock which was lifted due to the pontoon boat. Fortunately it seems as if the fix won't be too complicated.

Everything looks improved with bright sunshine including the boat launch that remains a bit under water.

I took this one behind our place a few days ago and the water has gone done much further since that time.

So what a blessing to have all this sunshine to dry things out!! Although there were a few trees that went down, this one, which I'm only showing a fraction of, was by far the largest!

In other news, we did the early morning pickleball thing four days in a row.

And then I had Nancy come one afternoon in order to make a foursome with some brand new players named Liz and Jim who just so happen to be friends of ours!

A lot more could be said, but my favorite football team is calling me now. In the meantime, just remember that....

Seriously, this was a tag on a top I purchased this week. How did they know???

your friend,

Gail
